Summary: Kaijucast is a Godzilla-related podcast where giant Japanese monsters (aka Kaiju) take center stage. Aside from the standard podcast banter, host and hardcore Godzilla-fan Kyle Yount shares his favorite music and audio clips from the films, reports news and interviews special guests in this bi-monthly podcast. To reduce server load, the feed has been reduced to the 20 most recent episodes, but all are available for download at Kaijucast.com

In feudal Japan, gangsters chase a young girl who might testify against their boss. When the gangsters murder the girl's grandfather on sacred ground, the door is opened for the Yokai Monsters to step in. We don't have any reviews for Yokai Monsters: Along with Ghosts.

Heather and Kyle mostly discuss what you, the listener, want to hear...mostly.Greetings and salutations and welcome to another conversational episode of the Kaijucast (episode 53). This month, Jeff is out sick so Heather and I polled the listeners on facebook for potential topics of discussion. All of the suggestions were great, but we couldn’t possibly cover them all, so we chose to go with the handful that Heather and I felt most comfortable discussing. If we didn’t get to yours, don’t worry! There were definitely two that Jeff needed to be here for, but he’s (to quote him) “a little barfy” and didn’t want to come. I know… gross, right? Anyway, hopefully he’ll be feeling better for the Daikaiju Discussion later this month. We didn’t go into our standard news section because, frankly, I didn’t really think there was anything really “newsworthy” this month. Having said that, there are some helpful links listed below to some of the topics we covered tonight. And, of course, there’s always the music… MONSTER MARCH MUSIC:1. Rodan from Aso by Akira Ifukube from Ghidrah The Three-Headed Monster (1964)2. Godzilla vs. Angilas by Masaru Satoh from Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974)3. A ridiculous campy romp that contains just about everything a fan could want from a cheesy film like that. That sounded kind of snarky, but I truly love that film… so much so that I actually bought the Japanese poster. If you want to email your thoughts, questions and reviews, make sure you do so by March 25th, so that I can include it in the next episode.
02.29.2012: Destroy All Monsters Daikaiju Discussion | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:05:44
Dave Helfrey, Martin Vavra and myself dive into the 1968 classic, Destroy All Monsters for this month's Daikaiju Discussion episode!Hey there listeners! I thought it would be kind of hilarious to take advantage of the leap year and post the episode on the rarest of days, February 29th. Was that a mistake? You bet it was! Here I am, scrambling like a sucker to get episode #52 in the feed before March actually begins… d’oh!!Anyway, this episode covers Destroy All Monsters – a long time fan favorite and a classic Showa-era Godzilla film. My co-horts for this episode were Martin Vavra and Dave Helfrey (aka Baron Von Goolo). We had a really great time watching the “brand new” Media Blasters release of the film on Blu Ray. And it looked gorgeous. Some minor audio issues bugged me a bit at the beginning, but we had a blast watching it and a blast talking about it. Also something of note, here… there was also a LOT of homework turned in for this one, guys. Well done, everyone! So many, in fact, that we barely played any music! So, here’s what we played: MONSTER MUSINGS OF THE MUSICAL VARIETY:1. SY-3 March by Bukimisha Weird Society from GOUKAI Na CHIKYUBOUEIGUN (2001)2. Audio Clip from Destroy All Monsters (1968)3. We’ll be watching the Shout! Factory version of the film (if you haven’t picked that up, do so now!). You need to email your homework in by March 25th to be included. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

02.16.2012: The “Road Trip” Episode | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:04:29
The Kaijucast heads North! Don't worry, T'Igor wasn't really driving. But almost the entirety of this episode was recorded on a road trip to Seattle. Photo credit: Kyle LangIn this episode (which is #51) of the Kaijucast, Jeff Dean and I record on the road to Seattle, Washington. Why go to the Emerald City? Basically, around Xmas-time when my parents visited I went to the Experience Music Project and SciFi Museum, and I definitely didn’t get enough time into the exhibits. It’s a fantastic museum and if you are in or around the Seattle area, make sure you check out the “Can’t Look Away” exhibit (if you like horror movies, that is). Since we were in the area, we also went to the Fremont Troll, Gasworks Park, Archie McPhee, and a comic shop called The Dreaming (owned and operated by a fan of Godzilla). We also got to check out David E. Dopko’s amazing Godzilla collection and have dinner with Nick “The Hat” Gucker and his lovely wife. There’s an album on the facebook page.In addition to the road trip, I also took a few minutes to discuss the newest issue of Godzilla Legends with it’s writer, Chris Mowry. Not only was it a blast talking to him on the show, Chris drops the first bit of a bomb: IDW is already negotiating with Toho for more monsters… a LOT of them. Stay tuned for the full list as soon as the papers are signed, people!MUSICAL STYLINGS OF MONSTROUS PROPORTIONS1. Sulfuric Acid Mist / Smokestacks and Hedorah from The Monster Project (2002)2. 01.26.2012: Tokyo SOS Daikaiju Discussion | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:15:02
Heather, Justin, Cindy, T'Igor and I delve into the 2003 kaiju extravaganza, Godzilla x Mothra x Mechagodzilla: Tokyo SOS in this Daikaiju Discussion episode of the Kaijucast!Someone ring some kind of bell or something, people; we’ve hit episode FIFTY!I think this is only the 2nd time we’ve received so many submissions for our Daikaiju Discussions. The last one was for a long-time fan favorite, Godzilla vs. Megalon, so I was pretty surprised that this mouthful of a movie title was so well received by the listeners. Well done, class…well done.Unfortunately that means that we had to do a lot more creative trimming in order to fit everyone’s thoughts into the episode. I don’t like having to cut anything out, but I think we got most of the highlights from everyone’s homework included. Apologies in advance if I missed something? There weren’t a lot of news items to cover, so make sure you check out the supplemental reading material listed below and, especially if you live anywhere near the Portland area, check out some of these awesome local events!Lots to cover in this episode, so we didn’t get a lot of music in, but as always the track listing for this episode is right here for those that want to know what was played during the episode.MUSIC x MOTHRA x MECHAGODZILLA1. This film is one of the classics and I personally cannot wait to hear what people have to say about this one. Be aware that February is a short month, so the homework will be due by February 25th! I kind of let the deadline for January’s slide a little bit, but I won’t be able to do that for next month. Hopefully a lot of you have the Media Blasters BluRay or DVD that came out last year. Since it’s included, we’ll probably watch the AIP dub, since that’s the version I like the best. Not that this whole podcast thing is all about me! Anyway, I hope you can get your claws on a copy of the film if it isn’t in your collection. If you’d like to submit your thoughts, questions and reviews for the discussion, email me and include “Daikaiju Discussion” in the subject and I’ll make sure to get your comments into the episode.
01.16.2012: “Live” from the Monster Garage..err… ROOM! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:20:17
Kevin DeAntonio, Bob Johnson, Barrie Evans & Loren 'Butch' Portillo join us this episode giving today's fans a glimpse into the past.Hey Kaijucast listeners! Welcome to episode #49 of the Kaijucast. Bad news, I’m getting over a killer head cold, so I was very happy to almost turn over the reins to some friends of mine. Ok, that’s not really what I did. But thanks to Skype and Bob Johnson setting up a cool recording space in his “Monster Room”, we were able to connect with this small group of fans “down south”.Heather and I are joined by Bob Johnson, Kevin DeAntonio, Butch Portillo and Barrie Evans as these fellow kaiju enthusiasts share what it was like to be a young Godzilla fan around San Francisco in the 1970s. I’m still really amazed at what was happening in that area of the US at the time. And who knows? This may be the first of several long distance group calls – not just with the Bay Area crew, either! As usual, we have a little bit of news to share and discuss, not too much but there are plenty of local events, too, for those in the Portland area. And because the Kaiju-sation -ok, you have to agree that’s a terrible name- was so long, we were only able to play a few songs (and the episode still came in at one hour and twenty minutes!). But here are those songs for you!MELODIC MONSTROSITIES1. Storm On Odo Island by Akira Ifukube from Gojira (1954)2. Attack To The Dune by Akira Ifukube from Mothra vs Godzilla (1964)3. If you want your thoughts, questions and reviews to be included in the next episode, make sure you get your homework emailed to me with the subject of “Daikaiju Discussions” by January 22nd. The reason the deadline is sooner is that the last week of the month is a very short one. If you don’t have it yet, we’ll be watching the subtitled version of Sony’s DVD – which is a pretty decent version of the film.
12.30.2011: Godzilla vs. Destoroyah Daikaiju Discussion | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:07:54
My kaiju cadre of discussioneers for this month: Cindy, Martin, the Mad Marquis and T'Igor talk Godzilla vs Destoroyah!Ahh, what a year this has been for the Kaijucast! And what a way to end it… with episode 48, the Daikaiju Discussion for 1995’s kaiju battle royale Godzilla vs. Destoroyah. Obviously this is one of my favorite movies in the franchise and there’s not enough time in one podcast to talk about all that makes me swoon as a Godzilla fan within this film.I was happy to have a cadre of kaiju commentators with me for this episode: Martin Vavra, Cindy Okumoto, the Mad Marquis (of Critical Hit Burlesque) and T’Igor all joined me while my very patient visiting parents waited downstairs. Also, many thanks to those who submitted their homework, you guys made some great points. As usual, there were bit of news and local events to share (see the show notes below). And if you are curious about the music played in this episode, here’s the coveted set list from this episode!MERRY MONSTER MUSICAL MELODIES1. This is important (and I mention it in this episode), but normally I ask that the homework gets turned in before the last week of the month. January’s last week is a too short to schedule the screening, recording and posting of that episode, so make sure that if you want to be included in the Daikaiju Discussion for January, you turn your homework in no later than January 22nd!And if you are a first-timer, just send your thoughts, questions and reviews with the subject of “Daikaiju Discussion” via email and I’ll include you in the episode. This film is legitimately available on DVD with the Japanese language track and English subtitles from Sony (which will be the version we watch), so you should all have it in your collections!
12.13.2011: Kaijucast Live Listener Party | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:36:22
Check out all of the awesome prizes we gave away at during the live show! Special thanks to Things From Another World, The Monster Project and IDW Publishing. Was it all a bit too much? You'd better believe it!Now that I’ve decompressed from our night of awesomeness that was the “Kaijucast Emergency Broadcast” (aka our live show), I’m able to post the audio from that TWO AND A HALF HOURS OF UNMITIGATED CHAOS!Seriously, this was a lot of fun, but clearly it went on too long. Why do we pack so much into one episode? I have no idea, but consider this your Xmas present from the Kaijucast crew. My fantastic co-hosts Heather and Jeff joined me in the studio tonight, we had a chat room that unfortunately had a limit of 25 chatters (something I wish I had known beforehand) and the live streaming audio. Our special guests who joined us via Skype were Bob Johnson of the Japanese news website, SciFiJapan.com, Matt Frank of Godzilla fandom fame and the “store crush” covers for IDW’s Godzilla Kingdom Of Monsters promotion, Jeff Zornow (another Godzilla cover artist and huge Godzilla fan), Miguel Rodriguez from the Monster Island Resort Podcast and Thomas Matis of the Tokyo SOS Podcast. And as you can see from the image in this posting, we had a TON of stuff to give away. Being unable to listen to the live stream, I have no idea how it all sounded, but I know there was a minute and a half delay, so I hope that didn’t detract from the episode’s audio. So this is it… our live show. Hope it’s enjoyable for those who weren’t listening live and in the chat. For those that tuned into the pre-roll, this is what I played:1. Pre-Game Commentary from Destroy All Monsters (1968)2. Biotech is Godzilla by Sepultura from Chaos A.D. (1993)3. Theme of Ultraman by Takahiro Matsumoto Ultraman The Next (2005)4. 11.29.2011: Godzilla vs Mothra Daikaiju Discussion | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:01:00
The day Jeff's been waiting for: we watch and then discuss the 1992 Godzilla vs. Mothra.Greetings and salutations, Kaijucast fans and followers! Episode #46 is here and I’d like you all to prepare yourselves for a LOT of talking. “Why?” you might ask yourself. Because in this excursion into the land of giant rubber monsters, we take a look at the 1992 Toho tale known as Godzilla vs. Mothra. Jeff and Heather joined me in the Kaijucast HQ to experience the joy of Mothra. We also had a lot of listeners turn in their homework great job, class! In addition, we also have a few little bits of news and other tidbits to share pertaining to the average kaiju fan.We only spent a little bit of time discussing it in the episode, but the upcoming live show will be broadcast on Saturday, December 10th at 2pm (Pacific Standard Time). Check out the Live Show information page and keep an eye out for updates. Thanks to Things From Another World, Adam of the Monster Project and Chris Mowry from IDW Publishing for their awesome contributions to the contests! I’ve often mentioned that this film is my favorite of the Heisei era and I hope that if you haven’t seen it, you’ll track it down. I know that the movie is definitely available on Crackle.com right now. We’ll be watching the subtitled version, but watch whatever you can get your claws on because it’s definitely worth the watch. As with the rest of the heisei series, it has some goofy moments, but overall it’s a solid Godzilla film. That pretty much does it for us here at the Kaijucast until our awesome live show in December. Don’t forget to put that down on our calendars and to keep watching this website for more information as we get closer to throwing that switch!
11.10.2011: Godzilla Legends’ Matt Frank & my trip to Japan! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:40:44
Can you see the majesty in this photo?? These are Matt Frank's Retailer Incentive covers to Godzilla Legends issue #1. Matt joined us for this episode and we talked all about this fantastic new entry into Godzilla comic-dom!Greetings and salutations, listeners! For this episode (number 45 for those counting!), Heather, Jeff and I were lucky to have the extremely talented and exuberant Matt Frank join us through Skype to talk about the brand new comic he’s worked on called Godzilla Legends, a brand new mini-series from IDW Publishing that should be on sale next week. Matt was kind enough to provide up with a review copy of his issue and we talked for a while about his involvement, both in the artwork and the story. It’s a great kick-off to what should be a great series, so make sure you check that out at your local comic book shop.We also talked about my recent trip to the land of the rising sun: Tokyo, Japan. As many listeners know, I was extremely lucky to have the opportunity to go to Asia for work and one of those stops was Tokyo. Was I ecstatic? You’d better believe it! A lot of the photos from that trip were posted to the Kaijucast facebook gallery named “Japan Visit 2011“. I hit almost everything I wanted to do, but not without some chaos thrown in for good story telling. If you are planning on visiting Japan, let me know as I am totally happy to share where I found the places. Because of the Tokyo breakdown, this episode is a bit longer than I wanted it to be, but it’s just so hard to stop talking about this stuff. So apologies in advance, folks! In addition to the interview and my Tokyo stories, we did have some new break during the recording process. Make sure you click on those stories and local events down below! MONSTROUS MUSIC SELECTIONS:1. Bio-Wars by Koichi Sugiyama from Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989)2. We’ll be watching a subtitled version of the film, but feel free to watch the version released on VHS and DVD back in 1998 (sad face). If you don’t have the film (and you really should), it’s still available from Deep Discount DVD. Admittedly, it’s not a great version of the film, but it’s the only legitimate option here in the land of Region 1. If you have the ability to watch Region 4 films (from Australia), Madman Entertainment has a pretty tight looking Heisei boxset with Godzilla vs Mothra included (although shipping might not bring you the set before the homework due date).
10.31.2011: Our First Ultraman Daikaiju Discussion | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:53:14
The Ultraman entrance to Tokyo's Ultraman Street greets you, dear listener, for this episode raises its beta capsule and unleashes a whole lotta' Ultra on you ears!So this month, our film under the Daikaiju Discussion microscope was Ultraman Tiga, Ultraman Dyna, Ultraman Gaia: Battle in Hyperspace. With the craziness of just getting back from my big Asia trip (I’m definitely wiped out and I think you can tell in this episode) and the Halloween weekend, I decided that T’Igor and I would keep this viewing low-key and just watch this meta Ultra film on our own (breaking it down as best as we can). Honestly, I just don’t know much about Ultraman. I have seen most (I think) of the first series, but none of the others. When Ultraman Tiga was on Fox, T’Igor and I tried to watch it as much as possible, but it’s not really my speed. Regardless of my Ultra-feelings, I did find the movie enjoyable in some ways. We didn’t actually get any real discussion submissions for this one (which wasn’t a surprise), you’ll hear what I mean.In addition to the movie, I played a number of requested Ultra music (that was tossed out there for the FB fans). Is it just me, or are the intros super long to these shows? Also, sorry the quality of the English intro isn’t better. I seem to only have a high quality version of the Japanese song. Our next film in the discussion-lineup is the 1992 Godzilla vs Mothra! If you own this on DVD, you might be more familiar with it’s US Home Video title, Godzilla vs Mothra: The Battle For Earth. Slightly laughable, I know, but we’ll be watching a subtitled version of the film because (quite honestly) that’s my preferred experience. I’ll try and bring back the KaijuLiveTweets for this one too. If you want to participate in this month’s discussion, just make sure you turn your homework in before November 27th. Just send me an email with your thoughts, questions and reviews – don’t forget to make the subject-line “Daikaiju Discussion” so I can find it easily.Congrats to our big winners of the FEEL THE IMPACT contest: Derek Hendricks, Kevin deAntonio and Adam Armour! And mega-huge thanks to the sponsor of that contest, Impact Merchandising. Make sure you check out their webstore where you can buy all sorts of awesome Godzilla-themed shirts!Join us next month where I’ll distill my (very) recent trip to Japan!

10.27.2011: Yokai Spooktacular and an interview w/Matt Alt | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:27:06
Yokai Spooktacular special guest, Matt Alt!Woohoo – another Yokai episode (and it’s about time, too!)…So, first off, apologies for the delay in the posting of this episode. I’m actually editing and writing and trying to get this online from a hotel room in China. I’m in country number four of a four-country Asia visit for my work. One of those countries I was able to visit, however, was the land of the rising sun, Japan. And since I was in Tokyo and since this is the October episode of the show, we have a special interview (conducted in person) with Matt Alt. Matt is the co-author of Yokai Attack!, a book that focuses it’s gaze on the creepy and weird ghosts and goblins of Japan. Matt met up with me in an area of Tokyo called Kichijoji and talked about these wild creatures and why they exist. In addition to Mr. Alt, Heather and I discuss the original Yokai trilogy and the apparent curse that has been placed on the Kaijucast headquarters! There’s a little bit of news (of which I’m sure you’ve all heard by now, since this episode has taken me WAY too long to finish) and it wouldn’t be an episode of the Kaijucast without some suggested reading.Hindsight is 20/20, right? I really should have edited my audio together on the plane so that it was ready to drop in the interview with Matt. So because of my poor podcast planning, this episode was delayed over a week. Why? Because once we left Japan, all of my free time went towards meetings, factory tours, dinners and other nightlife. It has been a bit of a whirlwind of activity here in Asia. Apologies to you, my dearest listeners. Also thanks so much to DJ Fulci of the Horror Holocaust Radio podcast for letting me borrow his mini-recorder. Make sure you check out their shows and commentaries!MONSTROUS MUSICS1. Gravesite Apparition by Hiroshi Watanabe from Tokaido Obake Dochu (1969)2. I’ve been out of touch with Facebook since we drove into China and haven’t been able to remind anyone about turning in their homework. We’ll be watching it the day after I get back from this trip, so I might be a bit of a zombie during the recording. Actually I think that the movie is a lot of fun, so hopefully we’ll get that watched, dissected and uploaded quickly. This is actually the first time I’ve posted two episodes within one week of each other! (And the last time, I can almost assure you…)
09.29.2011: Discussing Space Amoebas | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:59:12
Jeff, Cindy and the disembodied head of Justin sit down to talk about Yog Monster From Space (aka Space Amoeba) on this month's Daikaiju Discussion episode! In this very special episode of the Kaijucast, we are celebrating. Kind of … Ok, not really celebrating, but for my birthday, I got a new mixer and because of that I’m still tweaking the buttons, knobs and sliders. I think it sounds a lot better actualy, but let me know what you think. In this particular episode, we take a close look at the 1970 film, Yog, Monster From Space (otherwise known as Space Amoeba). The film is enjoyable, and actually I think it deserves a little more respect and notoriety than it typically gets, but it’s not in the upper echelon of kaiju films. The “guests” in the studio with me tonight were Jeff of Horror Holocaust, Cindy (who was one of my first guests and continues to be a Daikaiju Discussioneer) and Justin of the Going Last Podcast. I don’t know if we were tired or we were really enjoying the movie, but there was a lot less ribbing and we didn’t livetweet this one (which I didn’t even realize until I was typing these notes). D’oh. Not much in the way of news tonight, but there are some cool local events and of course I played music.MY BIRTHDAY MUSIC1. Main Title by Akira Ifukube from Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995)2. This was released on DVD by Image Entertainment in 2004. I actually don’t own this one. When Image out this on DVD, I chose to buy the other movie. I haven’t done a lot of research, but I’m not sure where to buy this one (suggestions are welcome!). If you already have this, I hope you can join us in spirit for this 2002 Ultra flick. Just make sure to email your thoughts questions and reviews with a subject heading of “Daikaiju Discussion” so that I can easily find your “homework”. Thank for listening and helping the show out – I’m hoping that there will be a number of audio improvements over the next few months. Speaking of, if there is a notable difference in this episode, shoot me an email and tell me what you think!Until next time, ja mata!
9.10.2011: Interview w/ Adam Alexander of The Monster Project | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:09:27
Kyle is joined by Adam of The Monster Project to talk in great depth about his amazing Godzilla music CD. Do yourself an favor and check it out! This particular episode (episode 41) may just go down as one of my favorites. Why, you might ask? Because our guest tonight on the Kaijucast is Adam Alexander of The Monster Project! What’s that? You haven’t heard of The Monster Project, you say?! You are in luck, sir or madame as the case may be, because not only does Adam talk about the CD he created, we also play two of the tracks on the show… and, if that’s not enough, you can always check out his website to hear the whole thing for free. Now, even though you can listen for free, I really, really hope some of you buy the CD because (and this harkens back to my love of DIY projects) Adam and the rest of his septet made this! Blood, sweat and tears and all that. If you want to hear more from the project in future episodes, I will be happy to oblige.I also need to mention that while we don’t have any real Godzilla news, I do have some thoughts to share about the Godzilla comics from IDW Publishing. As always, here in Portland we have a ton of great events going on. So if our fair city is accessible to you, you might enjoy the excellent local events listed below. And please don’t leave the site before you check out the amazing contest I’m kicking off today thanks to the sponsor, Impact Merchandising! This could be your chance to fill your closet or dresser with a whole lot of Godzilla shirts! The last thing I want to mention here, there’s something odd about this particular episode’s musical content: not a single one of the following songs heard in this show are symphonic pieces. I dunno… I find that very cool.MONSTROUS ROCK MUSIC:1. Stomp Tokyo by The Creeping Cruds2. Hats off to You (Godzilla) by The Groovie Ghoulies3. Main Title from The Monster Project4. Also, make sure your email’s subject is “Daikaiju Discussion” so I don’t miss it! Thanks again for being such great fans of the show – I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with for their contest submission. Talk to you later this month, folks!

Justin, Heather, The Mad Marquis de Maltease, Sophie Maltease, Cindy and I talk about (and make a little fun of) the 1968 Gamera vs Viras.Wowzers – this is episode number FORTY. I find it kind of hard to believe that if you chose to do so, one could actually listen to us talk for two days straight! Now that the flabbergastation is waning, I should warn you that in this episode we open up the can of turtle soup and take a long look at a classic Gamera film and one of my favorites from the Showa era, Gamera vs Viras (1968). When I say “we” the audience consisted of Justin from the Going Last Podcast, my co-host Heather, my friend Cindy and some new additions to the Kaijucast roster: Sophie and the Mad Marquis de Maltease (the Marquis was on the last show) of Critical Hit Burlesque. Things got a little goofy because this Gamera film, although a LOT of fun, is ridiculous in many areas. In addition to the movie discussion, there are a lot of really relevant links down below that I talked about on the show -kaiju related stuff- and if you haven’t already learned of these developments, I highly suggest following those links! I didn’t play a lot of music in this episode, but it matches the tone of the film for sure (here’s what I did manage to play).MUSIC THIS MONTH1. We’ll be watching the Media Blasters/Tokyo Shock DVD of this close to/around the 25th, so make sure that you watch the film and send in any questions, comments and reviews before the last week of the month. Now this film is a bit of an oddity, but it has some really cool moments: A giant cuttlefish! Kenji Sahara with a goatee! Bats! And just checkout this rockin’ trailer if you need another reason! Email me with the subject line of “Daikaiju Discussion: Yog” and I’ll make sure to include your thoughts in the next discussion episode. The next episode will feature Adam from The Monster Project and we’ll talk about his CD and his recent trip to Japan. You can expect that to be online sometime around the 10th of September. I’m also very close to announcing another big contest, so stay tuned for that. Hope you enjoy the discussion!

08.16.2011: Critical Hit Burlesque | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:20:29
Critical Hit Burlesque's Mad Marquis De Maltease joins Heather & Kyle this month for some geeky talk about burlesque in Portland! So… weird show this month. We were going to talk about a Godzilla-esque tabletop game with Justin, but unfortunately our schedules didn’t sync up. So instead of having our guest this month simply promote his own show (the original intent), we asked the Mad Marquis De Maltease from Critical Hit Burlesque -who is a long-time geek- talk about the Geeklesque shows that have been the talk of Portland in recent months. You may have heard us talk about Geeklesque before. Just as the name implies, these shows are burlesque with a geeky twist. It is of course not an all-ages event, but it is always a fantastic time and Heather & I have yet to miss any of the Geeklesque performances. That being said, we still kept the podcast mostly clean (for those who are listening with the youngsters). That being said, we ARE talking about beautiful scantily-clad women removing much of that clothing. So, I’m downgrading this episode (which is episode 39) from “clean” to “not explicit”. How’s that?Even though this wasn’t a how-we-normally-do-things episode, it is jam-packed with stuff so make sure you investigate all of these excellent links very thoroughly!MONSTER MUSIC1.
